Tell us about your practice.

My psychotherapy practice is located in Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn. I specialize in providing individual and couples therapy for adults. The clients I work with experience a wide range of issues such as, anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, infertility, and relationship concerns. My goal as a psychotherapist is to empower individuals to overcome personal obstacles to improve their relationships.

What made you decide to open your own business?

I decided to become a psychology major during my undergraduate studies and hoped to one day open my own practice. It always seemed as if it was a stretch or unattainable. I started working with a supervisor a few years back and she encouraged me to think about it. She suggested that there is no time like the present. I was pregnant with my first child at the time and it just felt right to start the process. I am so happy I decided to take the leap. It allowed me to put my clinical skills into use and provided me with the flexibility in spending more time with my daughter.

What has been the most challenging aspect of building your business?

It was difficult for me to navigate through the multiple insurance companies when I first started. I eventually figured out (and still am) a practical routine with submitting claims and figuring out how that whole world works.

What has been the most rewarding part of building your business?

I took a chance with starting my own practice and I am so glad I did. It’s provided me with courage, ambition, and autonomy. My greatest reward as a therapist is encouraging my clients to do the same and explore ways to make the changes in their lives that will allow them to look forward to the future with hope. I feel extremely lucky to be able to work with my clients in a supportive environment.

How has Private Practice Studio helped you in achieving your business goals?

Private Practice Studio has helped me in so many ways. After taking Liz’s Private Practice 101 course - I felt like starting my own practice was achievable and no longer was just a long shot. It provided a road map for me to refer to when I first started getting things going. I am constantly working on my practice and Liz continues to be extremely helpful.

Anything else you would like us to know?

I was so nervous to start up in the beginning. It seemed extremely daunting - but I took a chance and dove right in. Having Liz and my supervisor helped a great deal in providing support and a safe space to ask questions along the way!
