Tell us about your practice.

I specialize in providing individual and group therapy for adolescents, young adults, couples and families. My clients come to me for several different reasons, including issues related to depression; anxiety; stress; low self-esteem; relationships; special needs/learning differences; parenting;and challenging life adjustments/transitions.

In addition, I have a special interest in working with women throughout their lives, from the challenging years of adolescence all the way through the family planning process, which includes issues surrounding infertility, pregnancy, and the transition to parenthood.

I am also the co-founder of Teenz In The City, a social skills/life skills program for teenagers and young adults with special needs.

What made you decide to open your own business?

My Dad was an entrepreneur and I was surrounded by business my whole life. After working in a mental health clinic and then a middle and high school, I knew I was ready for a career change. After years of experience dealing with different clientele, I decided to go on my own and start Martine Rosenberg Therapy. Starting a private practice not only allowed me to apply the clinical work done in Graduate School, but also the flexibility to spend more time at home with my children.

What has been the most challenging aspect of building your business?

I would say that initial leap of faith to start from scratch. This was extremely challenging for me. While I knew what my passion was, I distinctly remember the stress of looking for office space to spend time with my clients…when I barely had any clients. Looking back, I am happy to say it was the right thing to do and thankfully by believing in myself and my ability to help others, it has allowed me the opportunity to continue to support my community.

Another challenging aspect was when my family and I moved to Long Island. It wasn’t easy growing my practice in New York City, and now I needed to continue this path to support my Long Island clients. About a year ago, I was able to begin this in Plainview, Long Island, and fortunately through referrals of my current clients as well as referring specialists, I am very pleased how quickly my practice has grown and the relationships that I have formed with my new clients.

What has been the most rewarding part of building your business?

Then most rewarding part of building my practice has been the progress and change my clients report to me. I have watched many of my clients that started as either insecure or anxious, and walked out confident, happy and empowered. I also value some of the special therapeutic relationships that I have developed with my clients as well as their families over the years. I am a therapist who cares deeply for my clients and gets involved in their lives, their problems, as well as their successes.

How has Private Practice Studio helped you in achieving your business goals?

Private Practice Studio has helped me achieve my business goals by keeping me motivated; especially in the beginning when I had decided to leave my job as a social worker in a school. At that time, I already had a small practice, but immediately after taking Liz’s Private Practice101 course, I felt motivated and empowered to take my practice to the next level.
